Cave Safe, Cave Soft, and Cave On!
Wurzbach Bat Cave, Texas
Wurzbach Cave is a Texas Cave Management Preserve. Wurzbach Bat Cave used to be home to a healthy colony of bats, but overtime was taken over by cave partiers.
Spraypaint takes seconds to put on but hours to remove. Think before you spray!Jette P and Kraz K worked tirelessly on this section to remove crayon, carvings, and spray paint from the surface.Wurzbach Cave has been decimated by partiers. It’s such a shame that people think they are more important than thousands or millions of years of creation by our planet.Jenna C personally removed this crayon arrow from Wurzbach’s walls taking over 6 hours for a minute long commitment. Jenna would love to speak to the owner of this arrow, so if you left it please refer to her contact information on the Officer page.Carvings can be particularly hard to remove without further damaging the cave. Congrats to these losers for their subpar artwork. This one particularly hurts our hearts. Aggies are supposed to represent the upwards of society. The Aggie Grotto does not condone vandalism or this artwork. We in fact would love to meet the Aggies that left it, so feel free to speak up.
Carlsbad Cavern, New Mexico
Carlsbad Caverns National Park does a speleothem inventory roughly every 10 years inside of Carlsbad Cavern. This allows the park’s Resources Division to understand the damage to the cavern done over time by employees and visitors alike. Shout out to Ryan Palmer for championing this project in 2023 and 2024, cheers to a hero!
